As someone living in London, one of my favourite places to take friends and family who come to visit, or even somewhere to force my boyfriend on a date is Gordon’s Wine Bar located in Embankment.

This wine bar boasts the impressive title of being London’s oldest wine bar and teleports you to an intimate setting back in time. The wine bar was officially established in 1890, but the building has records dating back centuries.

Gordon’s Wine Bar London: A Historic and Intimate Setting

Inside, Gordon’s is dark and dreamy with wooden tables, tapered candles, and arched stone walls. They also have some outdoor seating, which is beautiful in the warmer months, but it’s the charm of the interior that makes me love the place.

The staff is knowledgeable, welcoming, and kind, which is perfect, especially during long waiting times for a table. As the location is small, it’s not uncommon to have to wait, but the staff help ease the pain by helping you choose the perfect pour to enjoy in the meantime.

Exceptional Wine and Cheese Pairings

While wine is the star of the show, I’ve also enjoyed some of the best selections of cheeses I’ve seen together on a menu in a restaurant or bar. Like the wine, the cheese is made to order and can be ordered as individual or several slices. Gordon’s also has many delicious sharing boards with cheese and meat pairings perfect for any group stopping in.

A Wine Experience for Every Palate

As for the wines, these can be ordered by the glass or by the bottle and range from global vineyards to local productions. With reds, whites, and sparklings, there truly is something for everyone, even the most beginner of wine drinkers.

I personally have tried several different glasses of red and enjoyed each one. My favourite was a Spanish red that one of the bartenders helped me pick on my most recent visit while waiting for a table. They listened to what I enjoy in a wine and asked great questions to help me find the perfect options for me in various price ranges.

While some of the fun of going to a wine bar with such an extensive collection is trying new wines, it’s also great to enjoy your favorites. Gordon’s is special because it’s somewhere that lets you experience both highlights each and every time.

If you haven’t been to Gordon’s yet, make sure not to miss out, as it truly is somewhere that hits the marks of being both iconic and special, even if wine isn’t your ‘thing.’

What To Wear To Gordon's Wine Bar in London:

Elevate this look with a Chanel flap bag or tweed skirt. Another great option is to get a pair of Stuart Weitzman boots, they're comfortable and last for years!
